When Clarence Gilyard Jr. departed Matlock (1986), he wanted to do another pilot for a CBS series, and not play James "Jimmy" Trivette. However, it was Chuck Norris' call for Gilyard to play James "Jimmy" Trivette, because, Norris had made a deal with CBS for 13 episodes on the air, and13 checks versus one check.
