The film's production schedule in 1979 is reflected in a scene about 30 minutes into the movie when Jake & Elwood are driving towards the transient hotel. In a medium-shot, there is an image of a movie theatre marquee listing a "$1.75 special" ($7.10 in 2022 adjusted for inflation) for three films: Fuga da Alcatraz (1979), I guerrieri della notte (1979), and Up in Smoke (1978). The first two films were entirely 1979 releases in real life, while the last film was released late in 1978 but became a cult hit and a huge box office sensation (which kept it in fairly wide distribution long enough to share theaters in 1979 with films that were much more recent releases).
