The film bears some western elements: When Popeye arrives in Sweethaven, he is feared by the townsfolk because he's a stranger. At the local diner, Popeye beats up a gang of provocative ruffians who insult him and give the other customers a hard time. Popeye earns the townsfolks' respect when he defeats Oxheart in a boxing match. The townsfolk celebrate when Popeye stands up to the greedy taxman by pushing him into the water.
