Jon Spaihts's original screenplay, apart from having far more recognizable elements from Alien (1979), also contained several scenes and an ending that were removed or thoroughly re-written in later versions. Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) only appears in the beginning, and doesn't come along. His obsession is not with eternal life, but with a desire to retrieve the Engineers' profitable terraforming technology. Millburn (Rafe Spall) is still killed by a Hammerpede, which later jumps from his body and kills another crew member with its acidic spit; Janek (Idris Elba) and the others kill it with axes. Fifield (Sean Harris) is infected by the black liquid from the ampules, and transforms in a Xenomorph-like creature; it is Shaw (Noomi Rapace) who runs over him with a vehicle. A mortally wounded Janek teaches Shaw how to operate the Prometheus, so she can fly it into the Engineer's ship (named the 'Juggernaut'); after setting it on a ramming course, she ejects in the escape pods together with Vickers (Charlize Theron). The Ultramorph/Deacon, which comes out of the Engineer, originally had a much larger part: after the Juggernaut crashes, it emerges from the wreckage and chases Shaw into Vickers' suite, where she kills it. Stuck on the planet, Shaw explores different areas of the planet, and finds other underground corridors and chambers. The movie would have ended with Shaw discovering a frozen underground lake, with the terraforming chamber and a large garden underneath it.
