Trapper John (1979) was a successful spin-off of this show, which aired on CBS from 1979 to 1986. It was the only majorly successful spin-off, as After MASH (1983) was a minor success (airing two seasons), and W*A*L*T*E*R (1984) was an infamous disaster. 20th Century Fox and the producers of this show sued the producers of Trapper John, M.D. (1979) for royalties, since they claimed Trapper John, M.D. (1979) was a spin-off of their show. But the courts ruled that this show and Trapper John, M.D. (1979) were actually spin-offs of the novel, and therefore no royalties were due to 20th Century Fox.
