There is some debate as to whether Ian Holm broke the pattern of actors dying in the same order as their characters in the film. He died on June 19, 2020, after John Hurt and Harry Dean Stanton, but he was survived by Tom Skerritt who supposedly died before him in the film when his character Dallas was attacked by the Alien. However, some fans point out that in the Director's Cut, Dallas is confirmed to be alive until near the end, when Ripley finds him cocooned and kills him out of mercy. Even in the theatrical version, there is no clear indication that the Alien killed Dallas, implying that he may have been alive until the Nostromo exploded.
