The scene where the car is being swallowed into the soil was originally supposed to be longer, with Bibi Besch kicking out the front window, climbing on the hood and then getting submerged in the sand. However, the effect that was used to suck the car in wouldn't work properly, and there was no more nighttime to shoot the remainder of the scene.
