Both the 1976 and 2013 versions of the film have different endings than the novel. In the novel, the Prom Massacre caused by Carrie results in a heavy crackdown by the Federal Government on bullying as well as a woman commenting through a letter that her children are levitating blocks, remarking how it is a power her family had, implying that the family loves their children (unlike Margaret, who despised Carrie because she was a reminder that Margaret had committed "the sin of intercourse" with her husband) and will raise them better than how Carrie was raised and treated in her life.
