The name of villain Lao Che in the film's prologue is a nod to Lio Sha, leader of the evil title organization in Fritz Lang's silent-era films Il lago d'oro, ovvero I ragni (1919) and Die Spinnen, 2. Teil - Das Brillantenschiff (1920), which inspired the Indiana Jones series to an extent.
