Gene Hackman and Faye Dunaway eventually went on to play the main villains in superhero films. Gene Hackman played Lex Luthor in Superman The Movie (1978), Superman II (1981), and Superman IV: The Quest For Peace. Faye Dunaway played Selena in Supergirl (1984). Also, David Newman and Robert Benton were writers on Superman: The Movie (1978).
