The main conflict Lucas faces in the film is his parents' divorce. The bench that he runs into while fleeing from Lily, which causes him to fly off his bike into a bus and dislocate his shoulder, advertises divorce lawyers, to further show how divorce is hurting him (also note that the bus he flies into says "Airborne Delivery").
