Ezio Greggio was inspired to write a parody of Psyco (1960) after a friend pointed out his resemblance to Anthony Perkins, who had played Norman Bates in that film. When he tried to get the script made, however, he found that the financial backers instead wanted a parody of the much more recent Il silenzio degli innocenti (1991), and so had to compromise by rewriting the script to parody the two films equally.
