Peter finally removes the Symbiote in Web of Spider-Man Vol 1 #1 after arriving in a church tower and finding his costume reacts to the sound of the bells. Raimi confirmed that he adapted the scene in the church directly from the source material. The scene in the movie is pretty much identical to the scene in the comic.
