Tab Hunter is featured prominently in the film. He sings the song "Young Love", he's the cover boy on the magazine Dawn purchases at the filling station and the interview she reads references real articles written about him during the time period. The articles in these publications were often embellished or completely fabricated without his knowledge or consent to enhance his appeal to teenage girls, falsifying quotes about the qualities he looked for in a potential girlfriend. In reality, Tab Hunter was gay.
