Mary's school, "Howard School," is May Howard Elementary School, located at 115 Wilmington Island Road, Savannah, Georgia. The building shown in the movie was originally built in the 1950s to serve the growing suburb Wilmington Island. During filming, a replacement school was under construction just south of the original school used in the film. The original building has since been demolished.
