At the beginning of the movie, Thanos can be seen with the Power Stone on the gauntlet, implying that he assaulted Nova Corps of the planet Xandar to obtain it. This assault is later confirmed by Thor when he talks with Guardians of the Galaxy. Directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo explained that they did not include a scene showing Thanos' journey to Xandar to retrieve the Power Stone because they felt like it was self-explanatory, and would only add unnecessary scenes to the movie.
