The Los Angeles Kings reached the Stanley Cup Finals just once prior to the release of the film. That coming back in 1993, when they lost to the Montreal Canadiens in five games. Since the film's release, the Kings reached the Stanley Cup Finals twice, and won both times. In 2012, they beat the New Jersey Devils in six games; and in 2014, they beat the New York Rangers in five games.
