(at around 14 mins) [special edition only] A scene in which Jeff Goldblum explains the nature of the alien signal and how it could be blocked was cut from the Theatrical Version of the film, possibly to avoid controversy as Harvey Fierstein plants an unscripted kiss on an unsuspecting Goldblum. This scene was restored in its entirety for the Special Edition.
