At one point J.P.Dutta initially approached Sudesh Berry for Rattan Singh's role because of his long hairs at that time but Sudesh was not keen interested in playing a Sikh JCO he later chopped his hairs short and came in front of Dutta who later gave him the role of Mathura Das.
