The humpback whales Lucy and Gracie appear to be named for 1950s TV housewives Lucille Ball of Lucy ed io (1951) and Gracie Allen of The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show (1950). In Rotta verso la Terra (1986), the whales were named George and Gracie, with George being for George Burns.
