The killer viciously annihilating someone and then cracking their neck afterwards is a cliche that has been done in many many movies before. It happens here again when Larkin knocks out Mullins, cracks his neck and then sets in on her brother Tony. The Joker also cracks his neck after killing several opponents in The Dark Knight; Brad Pitt cracks his neck after a vicious fight in Fight Club; George Clooney cracks his neck before a vicious Vampire fight in From Dusk Till Dawn; and Bruce Lee does it several times after dispatching someone in his movies. In fact there's a YouTube Video dedicated to vicious killers cracking their neck which can be viewed online.
