When the series debuted, Laura Innes was to play the character of George Clooney's girlfriend, when plans were scrapped. The following year, she tried again, this time to test the part of Dr. Kerry Weaver. Originally intended to be a guest-star, she appeared for 8 episodes, and became a regular for the third season.
