The second Supergirl costume took nearly four months to complete. According to costume designer Victoria J. Auth, it originally had more red coloring but Melissa Benoist reportedly "started to look a little bit like a band leader". Benoist also requested designers to lessen the weight of cape and was reportedly thrilled with the more flexible suit.
