Toho Company Ltd., the Japanese company that owns Godzilla and produced the original Il trionfo di Kong (1962), re-edited and released in the U.S. as Il trionfo di King Kong (1963) intended to produce an immediate sequel to the film titled Continuation: King Kong vs. Godzilla. After a story treatment had been developed it was eventually canceled. Later Toho thought about remaking the film in the early 1990s under the title "Godzilla vs. King Kong." However, they were prevented from making the film due to legal issues with Turner Entertainment.
