Several aspects of the Superman mythos featured in this series are taken directly from Smallville (2001) such as the Red Kryptonite effect on Kryptonians, Clark and Lex growing up as friends before taking on different sides, Lena Luthor being born from an affair of Lionel Luthor, the Luthor family itself and the original character of Chloe Sullivan.
