The entire sequence introducing the "Homer" type of zombie, where the zombie gets his tongue stuck on a freezing cold statue and then the lady he was chasing, takes the statue's sword and chops off his head, is a nod to The Simpsons episode "The Telltale Head". That is the one where Bart decapitates a statue of Jebediah Springfield.
