Marvel wanted to introduce the character of Brian Braddock (aka Captain Britain) into this film and approached British actor Jason Statham about playing him. Statham laughed off the suggestion and said at 47 years old (as he was at the time) he was far too old and they should cast an actor 15 years younger than him. Ultimately the Russo brothers dropped the idea and the part was subsequently written out of the script during rewrites.
