The beast that bursts out at Malekith and Thor when they land on Jotunheim is the same type of beast that King Laufey summoned that chased Lady Sif, Loki, and the Warriors Three before it's killed by Thor in the first Thor film when Thor rashly goes to Jotunheim against Odin's orders and is afterwards banished from Asgard setting off his entire heroic journey.
