Jack Palance (the evil magician Simon) specialized in playing villains, and when he appeared here he was already a two-time Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominee (for both So che mi ucciderai (1952) and Il cavaliere della valle solitaria (1953)). His career would span several more decades, peaking with his finally winning Best Supporting Actor for Scappo dalla città - La vita, l'amore e le vacche (1991).
