The last Pixar film worked on by Joe Ranft, who died in a car crash in 2005. The film is dedicated to his memory, as are Tim Burton's La sposa cadavere (2005) and Sony Animation's first film Boog & Elliot a caccia di amici (2006), where he designed characters on that film. It also marks the final Pixar film to have a character voiced by him. Joe's brother, Jerome Ranft, would later take over as the voice of Red in Tales from Radiator Springs (2013) and Cars 3 (2017), as well as Jacques from Alla ricerca di Nemo (2003) as the character appears in Alla ricerca di Dory (2016), and later have a role in Up (2009).
