It was rumored Will's breakdown at the end of Willy, il principe di Bel Air: Papa's Got a Brand New Excuse (1994) wasn't acting and that it was for real and it was inspired by Will Smith's relationship with his real life father. In actual fact, the scene was ad-libbed by Will Smith and was inspired by the actor thinking about his friends who never knew their fathers and never had fathers in their lives. James Avery hugging Will Smith was genuine and not them being in character.
