The climax of the movie is very similar to issue # 229 of the Archie comic series with Sonic about to be crushed by Robotnik's Death Egg Robot but being saved at the very last second by transforming into Super Sonic, who proceeds to absolutely demolish the robot. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles working together with their charge towards the death egg robot quickly brings to mind their game counterparts in Sonic Heroes as Team Sonic.
