Columbo hated guns and generally chose not to carry one. In the episode Colombo: L'ultima diva (1975), he persuades a colleague to take a firearms test on his behalf. In the episode Colombo: Playback (1975), he discharges a gun once when he conducts an experiment to help crack a case. In the episode Colombo: Non c'è tempo per morire (1992), he carries a gun but doesn't fire it.
