The reason why this movie is so different from the book is that Roald Dahl hated the book. He called it Ian Fleming's worst book, comparing it to a travelogue. On creating the plot, Dahl said he "didn't know what the hell Bond was going to do" despite having to deliver the first draft in six weeks, and decided to do a basic plot similar to Agente 007 - Licenza di uccidere (1962).
