Mike Judge had originally planned for there to be a romance between Monica and Richard after the first season, but ultimately abandoned the idea, saying in EW, "If I had to say something that I thought that didn't pan out... I'd say us trying to having some romance between Richard and Monica. But I like the way we shut it down."
