Carol Willesee, the wife of TV presenter Michael Willesee, was originally cast as Pippa Fletcher and filmed scenes for the pilot, with her casting generating much publicity. Although she had been given assurances that she could have a flexible schedule in order to accommodate her young family, Willesee took this to an extreme and expected to only work during school hours. After a furious row with producer John Holmes, Willesee left the production and was replaced by another actress on the shortlist for the role, Vanessa Downing.
