Robin Williams, who was a fan of the show. was offered the role of the War Doctor. He felt honored to be asked, but was forced to decline as he was suffering from Lewy Body Dementia. His family have stated when he watched the Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor (2013), there were several scenes that made him more excited than he had been in a long time.
