With $1.328 million and a new domestic total of $399.767 million, today will be the day that this movie crossed $400 million domestically. That is an arbitrary milestone, and yet it remains a high-water mark outside of the biggest franchise installments. So it stands to reason that, yes, Jurassic Park/Jurassic World remains one of the bigger franchises around. It may not get as much online social media play in terms of memes and share-friendly gifs, but general audiences are still lining up to watch cloned dinosaurs inspire wonder and terror in unequal doses. Once it passes $403 million, it'll be Universal Pictures/Comcast Corporation's third-biggest (unadjusted) domestic grosser, behind E.T. - L'extra-terrestre (1982) ($434 million (counting the 2002 re-issue) and Jurassic World (2015) ($652 million), and if it passes the $413 million gross of Wonder Woman (2017) (which seems likely), it'll have the biggest domestic gross for any non-Disney release since Hunger Games: La ragazza di fuoco (2013) ($424 million ). With $1.23 billion worldwide, it is already the biggest non-Disney release since Jurassic World (2015) ($1.67 billion). Yes, presuming a $415 million domestic total, it will have made 36% less than Jurassic World (2015). That may sound steep, but it's about on par with the 33% drops for Il mondo perduto - Jurassic Park (1997) ($229 million from $357 million), Batman - Il ritorno (1992) ($162 million from $251 million), Spectre (2015) ($200 million from Skyfall (2012)'s $304 million ), Star Wars - Gli ultimi Jedi (2017) ($620 million from $937 million) and Fast & Furious 8 (2017) ($226 million from $353 million for Fast & Furious 7 (2015)), and the movie has earned, thus far, $841 million overseas, including $248.5 million in China (up from $227 million for Jurassic World (2015)) and $35 million thus far in Japan (compared to $74 million for Jurassic World (2015)). It retained 64% of its domestic audience and (as of this moment) 82% of its overseas take. The Fate of the Furious (2017) earned $1.23 billion despite a "mere" $226 million domestic total. Its $1 billion overseas take represented an 86% retention from Furious 7 (2015)'s $1.16 billion overseas earnings. Ditto Spectre (2015), which earned $680 million overseas compared to $804 million for Skyfall (2012). So while Spectre (2015), this movie, and The Fate of the Furious (2017) may have taken an understandable hit in North America, they mostly stayed the course overseas for what was a surprisingly close global total to their alleged "flash-in-the-pan" prior entries.
