In the film, when Dick Grayson asks Alfred Pennyworth about what is hidden behind a locked door in Wayne Manor, and Alfred jokingly replies that the door hides the corpses of Bruce Wayne's dead wives. This a reference to the story of Bluebeard by Charles Perrault ( 1628 - 1703). Bluebeard is depicted as a wealthy man who has married several women, has murdered all of them, and he keeps their corpses in a locked room within his country house residence. His latest wife gains access to all rooms in Bluebeard's country house, except the locked room with the corpses. She breaks into the room anyway and realizes the truth about her husband.
