In 2004, Mel Brooks announced that a sequel was in the works to coincide with Star Wars: Episodio III - La vendetta dei Sith (2005). Regarding a release date, he told Playbill in an interview, "Best case scenario: A week before the new Star Wars opens. Worst case scenario: A year after the new Star Wars opens." However, as of 2021, no sequel of the film has materialized.
