Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett previously worked together on Alien (1979), directed by Ridley Scott. Scott went on to direct Blade Runner (1982), which was also based on a Philip K. Dick story. That film was the inspiration for RoboCop (1987), Paul Verhoeven's previous film.
