This was one of two movies released in 1991 and preserved in the National Film Registry in 2002; the other was Boyz n the Hood - Strade violente (1991). Both movies were inducted one year after the minimum ten-year waiting period. In addition, Laurence Fishburne, who played Furious Styles in the latter, was considered for the role of Beast.
