In the original Missione impossibile (1966), Jim Phelps would receive his instructions in remote out-of-the-way places often arriving ahead of time with knowledge of where the tape recorder and associated documents were located. For the 1980s version, Jim now receives his instructions in a compact computer disk player, documents replaced with images on a computer screen, as well as an elaborate method of meeting secret agents, exchange a code phrase, and then being told where to find his mission instructions. This last point, added for a Cloak & Dagger effect, implying the IMF had agents everywhere at all times, was not present in the original series and only rarely did Jim meet with another person to be told where his missions orders could be found.
