La Forge had long lamented being able to see things like a sunrise, sunset or a rainbow the same as a normal human, even expressing that desire in the first season episode Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Naked Now (1987) while under the effects of polywater intoxication, and is finally able to get his wish when his eyes regenerate under the effects of the ring's metaphasic radiation and allow him to witness a sunset.
