In the case of Ash's Fire-type Pokémon, he always somehow saves them before capturing them, usually from an abusive trainer or, in Torkoal's case, from abusive Pokémon. With the exception of Incineroar, all of his fire-types were caught without battling and all except Torkoal have evolved at least once.
