After MacLeod becomes an immortal, Ramirez addresses him, that from this moment ahead, all immortals will fight to the death until the time of the Gathering, where the two remaining, will fight for the last time to get the Prize. Ironically, Ramirez is the first to die, killed by the Kurgan, and Kurgan is the last to die, defeated by MacLeod (not counting the sequels).
