This film shows New York City being destroyed by pieces of the Moon. Twenty years before this film was released, in 2002, another sci-fi film featuring the destruction of the Moon, "The Time Machine" had a similar sequence edited out of it because it was too visually similar to the then-recent 9/11 attacks. The 2013 sci-fi film "Oblivion" is set in a Post-Apocalyptic New York after it was similarly destroyed by earthquakes and tsunamis following the destruction of the Moon.
