The scene where Kong fights a giant octopus is an homage to Il trionfo di King Kong (1963), in which Kong's first fight is against a giant octopus. After the fight, Kong eats the octopus, a possible homage to special effects director Eiji Tsuburaya taking and eating the octopus after filming Il trionfo di King Kong (1963)
