In 2009, this reboot of the original film was announced. Robert Rodriguez was announced to direct and Rose McGowan was announced to star as Red Sonja, succeeding Brigitte Nielsen in the role. But due to Conan the Barbarian (2011) bombing at the Box Office, production on the reboot was abandoned and both Robert Rodriguez and Rose McGowan backed out of the project. As of 2015, the reboot is in development hell but left development hell in August 2022 with MJ as the director
