The Margaret Mitchell estate has maintained rights to "Gone with the Wind" and related works since the death of the original author. The family of Margaret Mitchell maintained control of the Estate until the death of last member Joseph Mitchell in 2011. At his will, Joseph left much of his fortune and 50% of the Estate to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta.
